People Are Sharing The Mandatory "Must-Buys" When Moving Into A New Place, And My Small Brain Didn't Think About Half Of These
Moving into a new place, whether a house or an apartment, can be chaotic and overwhelming. And sometimes, you just don't know where to start. Recently, Redditor u/No-Jellyfish6272 asked those in the Reddit community to share the mandatory things people should first buy after moving in, and it's incredibly helpful:
1. "A new shower head. I do it every time I move. It's pretty cheap to buy, and it's something that is most likely a huge upgrade from whatever the landlord has installed."
3. "A toilet plunger. It's different from a sink plunger, though that might also come in handy."
5. "A bed frame. I have a shockingly high number of friends who don't have one and just have a mattress on the floor."
7. "Get some fire extinguishers and double-check the age of the smoke detectors. If the detectors are more than 10 years old, get new ones."
8. "Ladders. A step ladder and a regular one."

9. "For me, it was a waffle iron. People are suggesting actually useful things — and they're wise — but in case you wanted something more fun and less serious, get a waffle iron. When I first moved into my own home, it dawned on me that I'd never in my life owned a waffle iron, so I went out and got one. Gotta have my waffles."
10. "If you can, buy and install new locks on all the doors. You don't know who still has the keys to the current locks."

11. "Real plates, silverware, and cups/mugs. They're affordable, and having them cements that you are home. Your favorite ones (yes, you'll have a favorite) can be taken with you if you move somewhere else, too."
13. "Don't sleep on buying a good pair of scissors. You will need scissors way more often than you think."
15. "Definitely invest in some quality cleaning supplies! A fresh start deserves a clean space."
16. "A garbage can. There's so much garbage that comes with moving."
—VBunns
17. "Don't not get a dishwasher. If you're like me and hate, hate doing dishes, a dishwasher will be one of your very best investments. Even if you have to negotiate with the landlord to do the necessary plumbing to have one installed, future you will thank you."
19. "Invest in your sleep. Save up and spend the big money on a great mattress and sheets. You won't regret it."
20. "A dish drainer. Even if you have a dishwasher, not everything goes in it, and sometimes you just want to rinse something off."

21. Lastly: "Coffee maker. Nothing happens without coffee."
OK, fine, I'll go and get a waffle iron. What do you think is a must-buy for someone moving into their first place? Let us know in the comments, or you can anonymously submit your recommendations using the form below!
